Redwood Coast Miata Club

Last update: June 28, 2008

Now that I have come back from a catastrophic computer crash, and finally recovering the website, it is time get this site updated.

Since we last chatted, we have taken two drives with fellow miata friends.  On May 17th three cars participated in the Marble Mountains run.  Out Route 299 to Weaverville, up Route 3 to Etna for lunch, down the Salmon River to the Forks Of The Salmon and on to Sommes Bar where we turned south down Route 96 to Willow Creek then home.  We planned this years drive earlier in the season to try to avoid the triple digit temperatures which usually accompany us on this run.  Unfortunately, this weekend happened to come with record breaking high temperatures so we ended up with 100+ degree temperatures after all.  Fortunately, good friends (you know who you are) allowed us to stop at their place in Willow Creek for some cold beverages and towels soaked in ice water to help cool us down before the final leg home.  Thank you again for your hospitality.

On June 7th we made a run to Shelter Cove.  A new club member joined us (the 'reds' are gaining ground again), along with a roadster fan driving a beautiful red BMW Z4.  The weather was sunny and comfortable, although quite windy in Shelter Cove.  After a lunch of fish and chips, we ventured to the Black Sands Beach for some sightseeing before heading back home.  It was a perfect top down day.

Coming up on July 12th, we are going to try something new.  We are going to drive out Highway 36 and down to Ruth Lake for a picnic lunch.  The route home is undecided at this time, but we will have maps and will figure it out for sure during lunch.  We will meet behind McDonalds at the Bayshore Mall at 8:30 AM and will launch at 9:00.  Bring your sun block, plenty of water, and of course a picnic lunch.  We will stop in Dinsmore for a leg stretch and potty stop, so you can pick up any last minute supplies at the Dinsmore store. Hope to see you there.

Also this summer, there appears to be four cars from the Eureka area attending the 4th Annual Explore Oregon event being held in Florence OR.  This event will take place July 25th thru the 27th.  If you are interested in joining us for some spectacular scenery and nice folks in the Willamette Valley Miata Club, check out their site here.  Time is running out, however.  They are limiting participation to 100 participants but it looks like they may still have some slots open.  If you decide you want to join us, drop me, the webmaster, a line and I will fill you in on our travel plans once they are confirmed.

RCMC is located deep in the heart of the coastal redwood forests of northern California, in Humboldt County.  We are blessed to live in such a beautiful place.  Within a few minutes, we can be fishing, kayaking, beachcombing or cruising top-down along the coast in our Miatas.  There are dozens of routes, and hundreds of miles of great Miata roads.  Mountain runs through winding canyons, river runs, the redwoods, the coast ... yeah, we've got that.

Got a Miata and live in the neighborhood?  Come join us on our next run!  Or, become a member and get your Miata kicks all the time.
